لَّٰكِنِ ٱللَّهُ يَشْهَدُ بِمَآ أَنزَلَ إِلَيْكَ ۖ أَنزَلَهُۥ بِعِلْمِهِۦ ۖ وَٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ يَشْهَدُونَ ۚ وَكَفَىٰ بِٱللَّهِ شَهِيدًا

Saheeh International · EN

But Allah bears witness to that which He has revealed to you. He has sent it down with His knowledge, and the angels bear witness [as well]. And sufficient is Allah as Witness.

Introduction

This is āyah 166 of Sūrat An-Nisaa (The Women), the 92nd sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Medinan period and sits within Juzʾ 6. Medinan verses often address community life, law, and the building of society.

(But Allah (Himself) testifieth concerning that which He hath revealeth unto thee�) [4:166]. Said al-Kalbi: �The leaders of Mecca went to the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, and said to him: �We have asked the Jews about you and they claimed they do not know you. Therefore, bring us somebody who would testify to us that Allah has sent you to us as a messenger�, and so this verse was revealed�.

But Allah bears witness to that which He has sent down unto you; He has sent it down with His knowledge, and the angels bear witness. And Allah is All-Sufficient as a Witness (166)Verily, those who disbelieve and prevent (others) from the path of Allah; they have certainly strayed far away (167)Verily, those who disbelieve and did wrong; Allah will not forgive them, nor will He guide them to a way (168)Except the way of Hell, to dwell therein forever; and this is ever easy for Allah (169)O mankind! Verily, there has come to you the Messenger with the truth from your Lord. So believe in him, it is better for you. But if you disbelieve, then certainly to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. And Allah is Ever All-Knowing, All-Wise.)
