وَكَأَيِّن مِّن قَرْيَةٍ هِىَ أَشَدُّ قُوَّةًۭ مِّن قَرْيَتِكَ ٱلَّتِىٓ أَخْرَجَتْكَ أَهْلَكْنَٰهُمْ فَلَا نَاصِرَ لَهُمْ

And how many a city was stronger than your city [Makkah] which drove you out? We destroyed them; and there was no helper for them.

Introduction

This is āyah 13 of Sūrat Muhammad (Muhammad), the 95th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Medinan period and sits within Juzʾ 26. Medinan verses often address community life, law, and the building of society.

Have they not traveled through the earth and seen what happened in the end to those before them? Allah destroyed them completely, and a similar (awaits) the disbelievers (10)That is because Allah is the Protector of those who believe, whereas the disbelievers have no protector (11)Certainly Allah will admit those who believe and do righteous good deeds, into Gardens under which rivers flow (Paradise); while those who disbelieve enjoy their life and eat as cattle eat; but the Fire will be their abode (12)And how many a town mightier than your town that has driven you out We have destroyed, with none to help them (13) Admonition and Fire for the Disbelievers; Paradise for Those Who have Taqwa Allah says, أَفَلَمْ يَسِيرُوا (Have they not traveled) meaning, those who associate partners with Allah and deny His Messenger ﷺ. فِي الْأَرْضِ فَيَنْظُرُوا كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الَّذِينَ مِنْ…
