Introduction

This is āyah 114 of Sūrat Ash-Shu'araa (The Poets), the 47th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 19. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

They said: "Shall we believe in you, when the inferior follow you? (111)He said: "And what knowledge have I of what they used to do? (112)"Their account is only with my Lord, if you could (but) know.
