Introduction

This is āyah 110 of Sūrat Al-Muminoon (The Believers), the 74th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 18. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

He (Allah) will say: "Remain you in it with ignominy! And speak you not to Me! (108)Verily, there was a party of My servants who used to say: "Our Lord! We believe, so forgive us and have mercy on us, for You are the Best of all who show mercy! (109)But you took them for a laughing stock, so much so that they made you forget My remembrance while you used to laugh at them (110)Verily, I have rewarded them this Day for their patience; they are indeed the ones that are successful (111) Allah's Response and Rejection of the Disbelievers This is the response of Allah to the disbelievers when they ask Him to bring them out of the Fire and send them back to this world.
