وَإِنَّ لَكُمْ فِى ٱلْأَنْعَٰمِ لَعِبْرَةًۭ ۖ نُّسْقِيكُم مِّمَّا فِى بُطُونِهَا وَلَكُمْ فِيهَا مَنَٰفِعُ كَثِيرَةٌۭ وَمِنْهَا تَأْكُلُونَ

And indeed, for you in livestock is a lesson. We give you drink from that which is in their bellies, and for you in them are numerous benefits, and from them you eat.

Introduction

This is āyah 21 of Sūrat Al-Muminoon (The Believers), the 74th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 18. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

And We sent down from the sky water in measure, and We gave it lodging in the earth, and verily, We are able to take it away (18)Then We brought forth for you therewith gardens of date palms and grapes, wherein is much fruit for you, and whereof you eat (19)And a tree that springs forth from Tur Sinai, that grows oil, and relish for the eaters (20)And verily, in the cattle there is indeed a lesson for you.
