Introduction

This is āyah 2 of Sūrat Al-Muminoon (The Believers), the 74th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Meccan period and sits within Juzʾ 18. Meccan verses tend to address faith, the oneness of God, and the hereafter.

This introduction is a starting point — the community and Bilal will enrich it over time.

(Who are humble in their prayers�) [23:2]. �Abd al-Rahman ibn Ahmad al-�Attar informed us> Muhammad ibn �Abd Allah ibn Nu�aym> Ahmad ibn Ya�qub al-Thaqafi> Abu Shu�ayb al-Harrani> his father> Isma�il ibn �Uliyyah> Muhammad ibn Sirin> Abu Hurayrah who reported that the Messenger of Allah, Allah bless him and give him peace, used to look toward the sky in his prayer, and so this verse was revealed (Who are humble in their prayers).

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُون - الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ - وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَنِ اللَّغْوِ مُعْرِضُونَ - وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِلزَّكَاةِ فَاعِلُونَ - وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِفُرُوجِهِمْ حَافِظُونَ - إِلَّا عَلَىٰ أَزْوَاجِهِمْ أَوْ مَا مَلَكَتْ أَيْمَانُهُمْ فَإِنَّهُمْ غَيْرُ مَلُومِينَ - فَمَنِ ابْتَغَىٰ وَرَاءَ ذَٰلِكَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْعَادُونَ - وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ لِأَمَانَاتِهِمْ وَعَهْدِهِمْ رَاعُونَ - وَالَّذِينَ هُمْ عَلَىٰ صَلَوَاتِهِمْ يُحَافِظُونَ - أُولَٰئِكَ هُمُ الْوَارِثُونَ - الَّذِينَ يَرِثُونَ الْفِرْدَوْسَ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ (1. Successful indeed are the believers.)(2. Those who with their Salah are Khashi'un.)(3. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw.)(4. And those who pay the Zakah.)(5.
