وَلَقَدْ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ءَايَٰتٍۭ بَيِّنَٰتٍۢ ۖ وَمَا يَكْفُرُ بِهَآ إِلَّا ٱلْفَٰسِقُونَ

Saheeh International · EN

And We have certainly revealed to you verses [which are] clear proofs, and no one would deny them except the defiantly disobedient.

Introduction

This is āyah 99 of Sūrat Al-Baqara (The Cow), the 87th sūrah in the traditional order of revelation. It was revealed in the Medinan period and sits within Juzʾ 1. Medinan verses often address community life, law, and the building of society.

(We have revealed unto thee clear tokens �) [2:99]. Said Ibn �Abbas: �This is a reply to Ibn Suwriya when he said to Allah�s Messenger, Allah bless him and give him peace: �O Muhammad! You did not bring anything that we know, and no clear token has been revealed to you by means of which we follow you�. And, hence, Allah revealed this verse�.

And indeed We have sent down to you manifest Ayat and none disbelieve in them but Fasiqun (those who rebel against Allah's command)(99)Is it not (the case) that every time they make a covenant, some party among them throw it aside? Nay! (the truth is:) most of them believe not (100)And when there came to them a Messenger from Allah (i.e. Muhammad ﷺ) confirming what was with them, a party of those who were given the Scripture threw away the Book of Allah behind their backs as if they did not know (101)They followed what the Shayatin (devils) gave out (falsely of the magic) in the lifetime of Sulayman (Solomon).
